Vatican spokesman, Fr Federico Lombardi, has expressed his sorrow on behalf of Pope Francis following the death of a pregnant receptionist at the Santa Marta guesthouse in Rome.
Miriam Wuolou worked as ‘front-of-house’ at the Pope’s place of residence. It is thought that her death was caused by problems relating to diabetes.
The 34-year-old was of Eritrean origin and was seven months’ pregnant when she was found dead in her flat on the outskirts of Rome.
Fr Lombardi said: “Pope Francis had been informed of the death. We are all pained by this news.”
