The Amazon synod concludes on Sunday. On Saturday, the 185 synod delegates will vote on a final document, which will be based on the discussions of the last few weeks. Each paragraph will need two-thirds approval to pass. The document is expected to denounce exploitation of the Amazon region, and may touch on controversial subjects such as priestly celibacy.

The Carl Schmitt foundation, named after the American artist, is hosting a symposium on “The Catholic Artist Today” in association with the Diocese of Arlington’s Office of Catechetics. Artists including the painter Henry Wingate will discuss their work and the faith at Our Lady of Hope Catholic Church, Potomac Falls, from 7pm to 10pm. Admission is free.
