Thursday, August 15 is the Solemnity of the Assumption – a celebration of Our Lady being taken up body and soul into Heaven, and a Holy Day of Obligation in both the United States and Britain. Among the events around Britain is a Youth Mass at 6.30pm in the crypt of Westminster Cathedral. The Mass is for 18-35-year-olds, and is followed by an opportunity to socialise.
In the Diocese of Lafayette, Louisiana, the feast will be marked by the annual Eucharistic Procession by boat. It also marks the 254th anniversary of the arrival of French-Canadian immigrants who brought the faith to Acadiana.
