Pupils and staff at a Derbyshire school have raised hundreds of pounds for a Catholic charity to support vulnerable people around the region.
Teachers and students at Barlborough Hall School collected £774 for Hallam diocese by organising a host of activities as part of its Good Shepherd fundraising week.
Activities devised by the children included a darts competition, treasure hunts and a unique “guess the knees” game of the under-11 rugby team game.
Wanda Parkinson, headteacher at Barlborough Hall School, said: “Each year we hold a week of fund-raising solely for the Hallam diocese, fulfilling the Jesuit ethos we follow of the pupils showing they are ‘men and women for others’.
“We are very proud of the pupils, fundraising achievements and delighted that the money will be going towards various projects around Sheffield, North Derbyshire and North Nottinghamshire.”
The students are aiming to raise more money with their Eggstravaganza raffle during Easter.
Mount St Mary’s College is on the Nottinghamshire, Yorkshire and Derbyshire borders. Founded in 1842, the college is a Catholic school, but welcomes and caters for the needs of students from other traditions.
Barlborough Hall School is an independent Jesuit Preparatory School for boys and girls aged three to 11 situated in an estate of some 320 acres of protected countryside on the edge of the village of Barlborough.
Founded in the 1840s, it began as the junior school to Mount St Mary’s College and was established as a separate preparatory school when it moved to Barlborough Hall in 1939.
Today, close links are established between the two schools, providing a shared vision of education for children from the age of three to 18.
