Charlotte Ferris, a Catholic pupil from Middleton in Greater Manchester, has just won two prestigious awards at St Bede’s College in the city.
The 18-year-old A-Level student won the much-coveted Father Coulthard Award for being selected as the college’s Sports Person of the Year 2010.
The college has an international reputation for sport with a number of its present and former students representing their country at sport and professionally for such clubs as Manchester United and Liverpool.
Andrew Steele, one of its former students, represented England in the last Olympics and this year Will Keane won Manchester United’s Player of the Year and the UEFA under-17 trophy for England.
Charlotte also won the Roy Burnage History Award for being the best history student. She is pictured here with the awards and her proud parents, when asked about how she felt about winning the awards she said: “I felt very honoured to be awarded both of the prestigious trophies and proud that I have made my mark at the college, which will be recorded in its history.”
Charlotte has just finished her A-levels in history, English literature and theology. She hopes to read history at York University next year. During her time at the college she has captained the netball, rounders and athletics teams, represented England at rounders and Manchester at netball and athletics.
A spokesman for the college said: “Charlotte was a worthy winner of both awards, it is great to see students combining their academic development along with their sport achievements.”
