The Duke of Noto, Grand Prefect of the Constantinian Order of St George, received and invested new members to the British Association of the order at the Little Oratory in west London on February 11.
Cardinal George Pell, the Archbishop of Sydney, was invested as Bailiff of the Grand Cross of Justice while Ambassador Antonio de Silva Coelho of the Sovereign Military Order of Malta to Peru was invested with the Grand Cross of Merit. Simon Grenfell, Member of the Government Council, the Council of the British Association, and the Council of the Sub-Priory of the Immaculate Conception of the Order of Malta, was invested Knight of Merit with Star; while Fr Julian Large of the London Oratory was made Chaplain of Merit; John McCaffrey, Christopher John Saunders OBE and Antonio Urselli became Knights of Merit. Fr Ronald Creighton-Jobe, the senior chaplain of the British Association, celebrated the Mass.
Prince Rupert Loewenstein, president of the British Association, presented the new members with their diplomas.
The Sacred Military Constantinian Order of St George is an Order of Chivalry which, from its earliest origins, has supported the glorification of the cross, the propaganda of the Faith and the defence of the Church and over the centuries has received the recognition and regard of the popes.
At a brunch following the Investiture, Guy Stair Sainty, the Vice Grand Chancellor of the Order, reminded those present that the order was founded in memory of the end of Roman persecution. He outlined some of new challenges faced by the Church in an often hostile world.
