ShadowCV has produced a song and music video, “Pray for Peace”, with the pupils of his alma mater, Cardinal Newman School, in Coventry in a bid to fight back against knife crime.
Shadow CV, real name Adam Hedge, 26, graduated from the Catholic school in 2010. He recently returned as a “music mentor”.
In an interview with Coventry Live, Hedge explained that he was troubled by the growing numbers of knife crimes reported in his home town of Coventry.
“Seeing the constant news of knife crime and the tragic events that have occurred in my city through recent years is painful. I knew that I had to use my platform and music to try and make a change, as music had changed my life and helped me get on the right path.”
Mentoring students one-to-one, he asked about their experiences of growing up in the West Midlands town. The song, written by the pupils, “represents the feelings” of both Hedge and his mentees.
With each student involved rapping their own segment, the lyrics encourage prayer and look to God for an end to the violence.
Hedge later said that: “This project was one of the most enjoyable experiences of my life; seeing my students grow in confidence and watching their musical abilities develop throughout the project has been amazing.”
