Apart from the obvious – Holy Thursday, Good Friday and Easter liturgies, and Good Friday fasting and abstinence – there are many ways to mark Holy Week. One tradition is to clean the house in preparation for the great feast. On a more spiritual level, many parishes will have extra Confession times, making this an ideal moment to make use of the sacrament.
Bishop Thomas Olmsted will lead the Good Friday rosary outside a Planned Parenthood clinic in Glendale, Phoenix. It begins at 11am. Bishop Olmsted has said Good Friday is an appropriate day partly because it commemorates the killing of the innocent.
The BBC’s Easter radio programming features a mixed bag of music and talks. Highlights include a special concert of music for Holy Thursday, conducted by Sir James MacMillan (Radio 3, 7.30pm). At 3.30 pm on Good Friday, Jeremy Irons (left) will read from the Psalms. The reading will clash with Good Friday liturgies, but will be available afterwards on the BBC website.
