The US Diocese of Charleston is entering its bicentennial year with a service of Vespers. The diocese was canonically erected by Pope Pius VII on July 11 1820. There will be events throughout the next 12 months, to be listed on charlestondiocese.org/bicentennial. The first is Solemn Vespers on July 11 at 6 pm, at the Cathedral of St John the Baptist.
Keen singers are invited to join in a “Come and Sing Handel’s Messiah” event at St Wilfrid’s, Ripon, England, during the afternoon and evening of Saturday July 6. Those interested should email Laurence at northern [email protected]
Saturday July 6 is the first All Ireland Rally for Life since the Republic introduced abortion last year. The event, which starts in Parnell Square, in Dublin city centre, at 2pm, attracted an estimated 90,000 marchers last year.
The line-up of speakers had not been announced at the time the Catholic Herald went to press.
