Rock star Patti Smith will perform at the Vatican’s Christmas concert this year, according to reports.
Huffington Post reports that Smith, who met Pope Francis in St Peter’s Square last year, will be one of the 18 acts on the bill for the concert at the Conciliation Auditorium, in Rome, on December 13.
Meanwhile, a historic church in Naples is currently deciding whether to let the legendary punk rock star sing at a concert it is hosting, according to the Italian newspaper Corriere del Mezzogiorno. Portosalvo, a Catholic association, has asked the Archbishop of Naples to ban Smith from performing at the church, reportedly saying it would be “blasphemous”.
Sister Cristina Scuccia, the singing nun who recently won the Italian version of TV talent show The Voice, is also expected to take to the stage for the Vatican’s Christmas concert.
