On July 3 Ratcliffe College, the Institute of Charity foundation in Leicestershire, was host to the annual nursery school and junior department prize day celebrations.
Parents, governors, staff and children gathered in the church to acknowledge the academic attainments and unique gifts of the children displayed during the past academic year. After a welcome by the headmaster, Gareth Lloyd, Sarah Rankin and Caroline Rigby (heads of the nursery school and junior department respectively) spoke proudly of the environment provided by Ratcliffe which enables each child to develop their skills.
This year the guest of honour was John Shinkwin, general secretary of the Catholic Independent Schools’ Conference (CISC), an association of head teachers of the 140 Catholic independent schools in Britain. Mr Shinkwin, who took up his appointment as general secretary in September 2009, was proud to attend the event, where he acknowledged the growth of talent demonstrated by the younger generations within the Ratcliffe community.
