No one who has paid attention should be surprised by his post-election conduct, including the phone call to Georgia. Yakima Valley Memorial Hospital recently announced that it is abandoning its former name, Virginia Mason Memorial, after receiving word that the Virginia Mason Health System, which Yakima Valley Memorial was a part of, may merge with CHI Franciscan, a Catholic nonprofit health system that operates 11 hospitals in the region.
The Archdiocese of Chicago has 291 parishes, but will have only 200 priests in nine years, said Fr. Dennis O’Neill of St. Martha in Morton Grove, one of the parishes that may have to merge.
