St Dominic's Priory will offer the Mass, with traditional Dominican chant, from Rosary Sunday

A London priory is to offer Sung Mass in the Dominican Rite every Sunday from next month.

St Dominic’s Priory and Shrine of Our Lady of the Rosary in Haverstock Hill, north London, will offer the weekly 4pm Mass from Rosary Sunday – the first Sunday in October.

The Dominican Rite was standardised in the mid 13th century and remained the unique form of Mass used by the Dominican Order until 1969, when most Dominicans adopted the revised Roman Rite.

Since Pope Benedict XVI issued the motu proprio Summorum Pontificum in 2007, interest in the traditional form of the Mass for the Dominican Order has been growing.

In a blog post, the Rosary Shrine said was starting the weekly Sunday Mass as a “pastoral initiative of the Dominican friars” that “has the full approval of the Prior, Parish Priest, and Rector of the Rosary Shrine.”
