A new film about the Fatima apparitions was unveiled at Cannes Film Festival on Thursday.

Arclight Films’ new drama Fatima, currently in preproduction, will star Hollywood actors Harvey Keitel (Mean Streets, Reservoir Dogs) and Sonia Braga (Aquarius). It will be directed by Marco Pontecorvo (Partly Cloudy With Sun).

“Cannes is the perfect place to introduce buyers to this heartfelt and timely film, whose main characters were just this week canonised by the Pope,” said Gary Hamilton, producer and managing director of Arclight Films.

According to the Hollywood Reporter, Hamilton added: “Fatima is a highly commercially viable film that remains true to its miraculous message.

“The story of Fatima is what real-life legends are made of.”

The film dramatises the story of three children who said they witnessed several apparitions of the Virgin Mary in Fatima, Portugal 100 years ago, Two of the children later died during an influenza pandemic, and were made saints by Pope Francis on 13 May.
