Pope Francis will begin his eagerly anticipated visit to Mexico on February 12, according to a Church official.
Mexican Cardinal Norberto Rivera confirmed the Pontiff’s arrival date, but offered no further details, while local media reported the visit would last until February 20, according to Associated Press.
Spokesman Carlos Villa Roiz confirmed comments made by Cardinal Rivera during a homily in Mexico City on Sunday.
Villa Roiz added that a Vatican official would be travelling to Mexico soon in order to arrange the schedule for the papal visit.
Earlier this month, the Vatican confirmed that Pope Francis would visit Mexico in 2016, but did not confirm the dates of the trip.
The last pope to visit the country was Benedict XVI in March 2012.
