The Moderator of the Church of Scotland has invited Pope Francis to visit the country.
The Right Reverend John Chalmers, Moderator of the General Assembly of the Church of Scotland, told the Pontiff that ecumenical relations in Scotland “have never been more cordial and productive” despite a history ofsectarianism, according to Vatican Radio.
During a meeting at the Vatican, the Pope urged Christians to overcome prejudices and find new forms of understanding.
“We are presently confronted by such great challenges that only by working together will we be able effectively to serve the human family and enable the light of Christ to reach every dark corner of our hearts and of our world,” the Pope said.
The Presbyterian Church of Scotland is the country’s national church.
