Cardinal Vincent Nichols will visit the Holy Land next week, where he will lead pilgrims on a visit to the Holocaust memorial in Jerusalem before going to Gaza to celebrate a Mass for the area’s small Catholic community.
The cardinal will visit the Holy Land on Monday, leading a group of 100 pilgrims from the Diocese of Westminster, plus another 30 people who are going in an interlinked pilgrimage.
He said: “I’ll be taking the young people to the Holocaust memorial, and that’s a very important moment for us.
“I will be among a few people who will travel on Sunday next to Gaza to celebrate Mass with the very small Catholic community in Gaza city, and to see the circumstances and conditions in which the people of Gaza are living.”
Bishop Declan Lang will also visit the Holy Land next week as a precursor of the visit to the annual Holy Land visit of bishops in January, which involves clerics from six or seven countries.
