The week ahead: Family fast day, Francis’s sixth anniversary, Pell sentencing

On Wednesday, March 13, Pope Francis (right) will mark the sixth anniversary of his election. That day, the Pope will be taking part in the Spiritual Exercises for the Roman Curia in Ariccia, led by Benedictine Abbot Bernardo Gianni.


Also on March 13, Cardinal George Pell will be sentenced after he was found guilty of sexual offences against children last week. The former Archbishop of Melbourne is appealing against the verdict, but it could take more than a year for the appeal to be heard. The five offences of which the cardinal has been found guilty each carry a maximum jail term of 10 years.
