Youth & Children’s Ministry Coordinator

St Mary’s Cathedral of The Assumption is a Christ-centred community which is alive, forming & sending out joyful disciples.

We invite applications from youth ministry leaders with a minimum of 2 years’ experience in a youth leadership role for the position of Youth Ministry Coordinator. The Youth & Children’s Ministry Coordinator will be responsible for the organising, development and training of a Youth Ministry team of adult helpers and emerging youth leaders; the delivery of the weekly Youth Group Programmes & further development of youth ministry within the wider parish in alignment with the Parish vision.

Job Description:

Job Title: Parish Youth & Children’s Ministry Coordinator (full-time)
Tenure: Full time (35 Hours per week) including frequent evening & weekend hours
Location: St Mary of The Assumption Cathedral, Aberdeen
Reporting to: As designated by the Parish Priest
Salary: £18,000 – £25,000 per annum, commensurate with qualifications/experience

Job Purpose:

To bring passion, vision, energy & knowledge to develop Youth Ministry in the Catholic Parish of St Mary of The Assumption, Aberdeen.
To assist young people in the parish to seek a personal encounter with Jesus in their lives, grow in the life of the Spirit and nurture Christian values for the benefit of themselves, their local Church & the wider community.
To empower young people to become visible and active in the Parish.
To focus primarily on the P7 and Secondary School age range.
To support families with children, especially through mother & toddler groups and other groups for children.

Principal Duties & Responsibilities:

To organise:
1. Weekly Youth Groups and Confirmation Classes
2. Semestral Weekend Retreats
3. Annual Pilgrimages
4. Other youth activities, as necessary
Connect with Parishioners, especially young people, and their families at the parish’s Sunday liturgies.
To engage and support parents of young people involved in the Youth programme.
To develop a programme that promotes a commitment to the Catholic faith and encourages young people to engage in our liturgies, so as to play an active and visible role in parish life.
To develop leadership skills amongst young people in the parish, through a range of activities.
To lead Music & Worship within the Youth Group and grow Youth Music Leaders.
To develop strong teams through Music/Worship & a range of outdoor activities.
To be part of the Catechetical Team, with shared responsibility for the delivery of the Confirmation course to young people, and to help to develop youth groups out of the First Reconciliation and Communion classes.
To promote effective & safe communication on social media platforms.
To promote a safe environment for Parish Youth Ministry through working with Parish Safeguarding Coordinators and following the safeguarding policies & practice in the diocese.
To investigate & develop fundraising opportunities, including grants and local parish-based initiatives.The above does not represent an exhaustive list of responsibilities and tasks but indicates the main responsibilities required from employees in the role. To be conversant with “Divine Renovation: From a Maintenance to a Missional Parish” by Fr James Mallon, and “Forming Intentional Disciples” by Sherry Weddell.
To have a Full Clean UK Driving license.
To have the right to work in the UK.
To be a member of the Protection of Vulnerable Groups (PVG) scheme.
To be able to play a musical instrument so as to lead praise and worship with young people.
To have a heart for teenagers & youth culture and can understand how to connect with both.
To be able to have crucial conversations with parents around a variety of issues.
To have healthy boundaries in interacting with teens.
To have a cultural awareness that values youth from all backgrounds in the parish.
To display and maintain an active spiritual life rooted in a growing relationship with Jesus Christ, committed to personal prayer, reading scripture and church attendance/membership at St Mary of The Assumption.
To have a strong familiarity with the parish vision, mission and culture.
To have the ability to work within a team and receive direction and feedback.
To be able to maintain confidentiality in dealing with information.
To comfort in working with and openness to current and new technology.
To desire to contribute to, and be a part of, a fun-filled, engaging work environment.
To work in full collaboration with The Senior Leadership Team.
