Obama’s words to the Pope ring hollow

When Pope Francis and Barack Obama met at the White House yesterday, President Obama highlighted the horrific persecution of Christians around the world and assured Pope Francis that he and America “stand with you in defense of religious freedom.” He specifically said: “You remind us that people are only truly free when they can practice their faith freely.”

Such a lovely sentiment. It hit all the right chords but the Pope surely wasn’t swallowing any of that tripe.

The president made no mention of his administration’s concerted efforts of attacking the religious freedoms of Catholics by mandating that our hospitals and schools and other entities such as The Little Sisters of the Poor are forced to pay for abortifacient drugs; or that family-owned businesses are made to participate in same-sex wedding ceremonies in violation of their religious beliefs. Catholic agencies are also being pushed out of foster care and adoption services because they refuse to place children with same-sex, unmarried or co-habiting heterosexual couples.

His Holiness pointed out that the protection of religious freedom is imperative for American Catholics saying: “With their fellow citizens, American Catholics are committed to building a society which is truly tolerant and inclusive, to safeguarding the rights of individuals and communities, and to rejecting every form of unjust discrimination.

He added that “With countless other people of good will, they are likewise concerned that efforts to build a just and wisely ordered society respect their deepest concerns and their right to religious liberty. That freedom remains one of America’s most precious possessions. And, as my brothers, the United States bishops, have reminded us, all are called to be vigilant, precisely as good citizens, to preserve and defend that freedom from everything that would threaten or compromise it.”

President Obama in turn praised the Pope’s desire “to ensure that every human being is able to live in dignity—because we are all made in the image of God.”

This is the same man who at a recent reception in honour of Planned Parenthood, the abortion industry’s biggest death monger, said “God bless you for all your work!”

Such unblushing hypocrisy should shame the man and yet, oddly, it doesn’t.

Barack Obama has shown himself to be the most pro-abortion president in American history. He barefacedly defends Planned Parenthood despite proof that the abortion provider has been recorded discussing the sale of aborted baby parts.

I guess for him these defenceless children aren’t really “made in the image of God.”
