Cardinal Jaime Ortega y Alamino has resigned from the leadership council of the Cuban bishops’ conference.

Bishop Franz-Peter Tebartz-van Elst of Limburg has paid an €20,000 (£17,000, $27,000) fine to settle a case in which he was accused of making false statements.
