Five men were enrolled into the Catenian Association at an impressive ceremony for the inauguration of a new group at St George’s Cathedral’s Amigo Hall in Southwark, south London, on January 13. Terry Grange is the new group’s chairman. Catenian Association’s Grand President Vernon deCruz and the director, John Rayer were present at the ceremony.
Before the ceremony, Holy Mass was held in St George’s Cathedral concelebrated by Canon James Cronin, who is dean of the Cathedral, Fr Prior Francis Kemsley, who is the parish priest of English Martyrs, Walworth, and Fr Thomas Udie, who is the parish priest of Immaculate Conception in Rotherhithe.
Also attending the meeting and dinner were Fr Graham Preston of St Peter and the Guardian Angels Rotherhithe and Canon Michael Cooley of Our Lady of La Salette in Bermondsey. All the clergy have provided tremendous support for the new group.
The Catenians are a brotherhood of practising Catholic laymen who span the globe. They support strengthening family life through friendship and faith.
Circles, as the local branches are known, meet socially at least once a month. Members call each other “brothers” to reflect the shared values of their beliefs. Members are keen to fullfil their vocations in life as baptised Christians and in their professions and their workplace.
Readers living, working or attending Mass in the Southwark area might be interested in joining the Catenian Association. The group is due to meet monthly on the second Thursday in the parish club of St Peter and the Guardian Angels, Rotherhithe. For more information speak to John Owen on 01795 422055 .
