The St Vincent de Paul Society (SVP) at St Benedict’s School in Ealing, West London, held its annual “Rich Man, Poor Man” raffle towards the end of October.
Those who won the raffle – the rich – received a generous meal of only the best Pizza Hut pizza and Ben and Jerry’s ice cream, capable of rivalling even school dinners. Those who didn’t win – the poor – weren’t left to starve. In the spirit of the SVP, they received a modest cup of soup and bread. Some £200 was raised from the event.
Sixth-formers Tess Fawcett, Martin Gracias, Oliwia Henshaw, Jack Gallagher, Calum Rose, Kyriaki Vasileiadou, Kisanet Yohannes, Daniel Cayford, Kathryn Grahame and Dominic Tighe were responsible for selling the tickets, and also served the soup and bread. The event was advertised by the posters produced by Daniel Rodgers.
Seven winners from across the school were royally entertained and served in The Cloisters.
